THE LETTER
August 12, 2026
Senator Darline Graham
Darline for Senate
Dear Senator Graham:
Congratulations on advancing to the August 25 Republican runoff for the United States Senate. I wish you and your family well over the demanding two weeks ahead.
I am writing to formally invite you to commit to a series of televised general election debates this fall. I am extending this identical invitation to both runoff candidates, so that whoever emerges as the Republican nominee on August 25 will already have made this commitment to the people of South Carolina.
Specifically, I propose:
- A series of at least three televised, in-studio debates beginning in September 2026, in different regions of the state — the Midlands, the Lowcountry, and the Upstate.
South Carolina families are confronting rising grocery bills, unaffordable health care, and the loss of their rural hospitals. They deserve the chance to hear — face to face, in prime time, in their own state — how each candidate for this open seat intends to address those challenges. An open Senate seat in South Carolina is rare; a campaign for it conducted only through advertisements would be a disservice to the voters we both seek to represent.
I ask that your campaign respond by Thursday, August 27, 2026 — within 48 hours of the conclusion of the runoff — so that the host stations can begin scheduling in earnest.
I committed to debating the day I entered this race. I hope you will do the same. Whoever your party nominates, wherever the stations choose, I will be there.
Sincerely,
Dr. Annie Andrews
